London Fashion Week – Our Top 3 Favorite UK Designers

To celebrate  London Fashion Week which started Friday 17th of Feb and goes until Wednesday the 21st of Feb, we have decided to showcase our three favorite English designers.

Henry Holand

After graduating from the London College of Printing with a BA in Journalism, Henry Holland was catapulted into the fashion limelight in 2006 with his irreverent ‘Fashion Groupies’ slogan tees featuring catchphrases such as “UHU Gareth Pugh” and “Get Your Freak On Giles Deacon”.

In February 2008, after 2 seasons showing with Fashion East, House of Holland held its first solo show on the main Fashion Week schedule to critical acclaim with the brand consequently winning the ‘Best Use of Tartan Award’ at the Scottish Fashion Awards.

He is also responsible for model Agyness Deyn’s rise as one of the most sort after models, after he proclaimed her to be his muse.

Alexander McQueen

Alexander McQueen, who’s life ended on 11 February 2010, was one of the UK’s most influential designers. His trademark skulls and avant-garde designs, featured heavily on both clothing, accessories and carpets. McQueen’s designs had a huge cult like celebrity following, McQueen’s current creative director is Sarah Burton.

Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney made her first jacket when she was 13, always wanting to be a designer, this heiress to The Beetles (thanks to father Sir Paul McCartney) is an un-stoppable force, collaborating with brands like Adidas and Target and also being the creative director for House of Chloé.

What’s in a bloggers wardrobe? – Sara in Dubai.

New bloggers are a constant fixture in the Dubai scene, we caught up with the latest Dubai darling Sara, who has been living in Dubai all her life. Rather then write just about fashion, she also likes to write about things that she is passionate about, events, charities and the happenings in Dubai.

We caught up with Dubai’s newest it blogger,

Q: Blog Name

Q: How long have you been a blogger?

3 months and I’m loving it!

Q: Finish this sentence…. Fashion to me is….

a temporary segment of style, fashion is what the scene is now about, it changes along with the seasons.

Q: What is your favorite high street item in your closet?

my high waist mustard skirt from an online shop I discovered recently, Lucy in the Sky.

Q: What is your favorite high end item in your closet?

My Adolfo Sanchez jacket

Q: Fav vintage item?

Q: When dressing for a night out with your girlfriends, what suggestions can you give / tips?

Experiment with different styles and looks, go crazy and go wild! Yet make sure you end up feeling comfortable in what you are wearing. A night in heels that you can barely walk in or a dress that is a size smallerisn’t going to be a fun one, trust me!

Q: What never goes out of style?

Trench coats! Throughout the years, they still look the same.

Q: Favorite place to chill / drink at in Dubai.

Left bank, Da Gama, Margaux, and Trader Vic’s.

NYC Fashion Week 2012 Day 1 & 2 Recap.

New York Fashion Week, makes us slightly jealous for the selected few that can attend but we guess someone has to hold the fort back in Dubai.

Being day 3, we’ve picked some of our favorite collections and designers, that have graced the catwalk of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week so far.

Not only do we absolutely adore fashion designer, Choonmoo Park’s fashion label but we love her role in, Korean avant garde design since 1988.

BCBGMAXAZRIA was founded in 1989 by Designer, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Max Azria. In 1991 Azria’s wife and muse, Lubov, joined BCBGMAXAZRIA as Creative Director. Named for the French phrase “bon chic, bon genre,” a Parisian slang meaning “good style, good attitude,” the brand embodies a true combination of European sophistication and American spirit.

Kaelen debuted her first collection during Fall New York Fashion Week in February 2010, focusing on layered knits and off-kilter shapes that juxtaposed drapery and sharp tailoring. Since then she has continued to embrace experimentation by playing with asymmetrical hemlines and redefining the button-down shirt, which she considers a wardrobe staple. While she has drawn inspiration from elements ranging from a tornado chase she experienced to Sam Haskin’s book “Cowboy Kate” and most recently, the Roaring Twenties for her Fall 2012 collection.

Bumsuk Choi, the name behind the menswear label, General Idea, launched his debut collection in the Spring of 2004 at the age of 26 making him the youngest designer to join the Seoul Collection in the Republic of Korea. Since the start of General Idea, Bumsuk has succeeded in building an international brand as well as collaborating with many major labels worldwide. In 2006 Choi designed the RENAULT F1 Team’s Formua 1 race car. Since then he has designed for Heineken, Absolut Vodka and in early 2010 the limited edition General Idea / Puma “Black Station Line” was launched exclusively in Asia.

We can’t wait to see what day 3 brings!

Madonna Heading to Yas Island June 3rd

Madonna, fashion icon, singer, actress, director, producer, fashion designer, trend setter, these things and more, are what you think of when you think of Madonna. Seeing as she is heading to our little sandpit, we decided to take a trip down memory lane, a time when she didn’t need aggressive trips to gym or photo shop to feel young.

“No matter who you are, no matter what you did, no matter where you’ve come from, you can always change, become a better version of yourself.” – Madonna

“I stand for freedom of expression, doing what you believe in, and going after your dreams.” – Madonna

“A lot of people are afraid to say what they want. That’s why they don’t get what they want.” – Madonna
